I’ve redesigned my website, DKwan.com. The home page is now mainly a portal to third party services that I use, like Flickr and Model Mayhem.
The logo has been changed slightly (I turned it 90 degrees counter-clockwise, in case you couldn’t tell) so that it looks more like my initials and less like Jolly Roger. The lettering has been changed from “DKWAN” to “d.kwan” because many people have been reading “DKWAN” as “D-K-Wan”. And the full name is now D.Kwan Media to reflect the fact that I do more than just photography.
The model in the background is Gina Tran, who was Second Runner-up for last year’s Miss Vietnam USA competition, and is competing later today in the Vietnamese Modeling Project. (Go Gina!)
The redesign is partly to make managing my online presence simpler, and to hopefully change my reputation as a club photographer to something better. It’s not that being a club photographer is bad. It’s just that, well, most club photographers are really, really bad! Absolutely horrible at photography! And I don’t want to be associated with them.
So then what kind of photographer am I? Hard to say. I do shoot weddings, but I wouldn’t call myself a wedding photographer. People’s impression of what a wedding photographer should be (jolly, friendly, tells you to say cheese) just isn’t me (disgruntled, mean, tells you you look awkward).
Unfortunately I don’t have a niche. From now on, when people ask, I’m a freelance artist (*cough*unemployed*cough*).
