Day 226: Christmas party coming

Happy Thanksgiving! But nobody in China cares about Thanksgiving, so let’s talk about Christmas. A couple people and I have been organizing an early Christmas party for December 13 because many expats will be going home for Christmas. That includes myself. That’s right, D.Kwan is coming home for Christmas!

For those in Shanghai, here’s the party info:

Shanghai Stuff Christmas Party

December 13, 2008 at 9pm
Candy Club, 570 Huaihai Xi Lu, near Hongqiao Lu

Before the “laowai”s head home for Christmas, let’s all celebrate an early Christmas together in Shanghai!

Thanks to Candy Club’s generous spirit of giving, we will have open bar (unlimited drinks) for 100 RMB, with 20% of that going to the charity of our choice. We will also have the entire VIP area, which comes with our own bar and bartender, and two quiet rooms for those who wish to chitchat.

Everyone who wishes to participate in Secret Santa, please get the info here.

Candy Club will be decorated in a Christmas theme, and Santa Claus will be making an appearance. Support Santa by wearing red or white to the party!

Yay! Big thanks to Karl for arranging the venue and getting us the sweet deal.

Day 221: Windows ATM

Looks like this ATM’s using Windows. That would explain why there are always so many ATMs out of service in Shanghai.

Day 215: Bicycling in Shanghai

第215天: 上海骑车
(Kindly translated into Chinese by Caroline Hsu. Thank you!)

Ten of us went bicycling in Shanghai yesterday, from Billion’s shop by Xintiandi to Lujiazui, and back to his shop. I had a great time and I hope everyone who showed up did as well. Big thanks to the staff of Shanghai Bicycle Rental: Billion, Chris, Edward, and Lao Wu Lao Hu!

Day 213: No work today

I’m glad I didn’t have to work today (company had a scheduled power outage) because the weather was absolutely perfect! Blue skies, cool breeze, about 70 degrees F – perfect for biking, and that’s what I did.

But I busted the rear tire before I even got anywhere. Fortunately there was a bicycle repair shop just a block away. The repair cost me only 1.5 RMB, I shit you not. Less than a US quarter.
