Yesterday I went to San Francisco to take care of some Chinese visa stuff, and I had Al be my unpaid intern and tour guide. This was my first time strolling San Francisco with someone who actually lives in downtown SF. Normally I’m with other tourists from the suburbs and we’d always end up asking for directions, but she was totally familiar with the area and knew where to get cream puffs and stuff. Her tip for finding the Chinese Consulate was to look for the demonstrators outside. (Since I want my site to remain accessible in China, I didn’t upload pics of the demonstrators.)

Waiting for my flight to San Francisco at Pudong Airport’s Terminal 2 Gate D59.

我正在浦东机场2号航站楼的D59号门等待飞往旧金山的飞机.

I requested something other than Air China and the company let me take Jet Airways, an Indian airline. This will be my first time taking this airline. Shanghai is a pit stop for this flight (9W210 Mumbai to San Francisco) so I hope the plane isn’t too crowded.

我请公司不要给我定中航的飞机, 他们就给我定印度捷特的飞机. 这是我第一次乘坐这家航空公司的飞机. 上海是这趟飞机 (9W210 孟买飞旧金山) 的暂停站, 因此我希望飞机上的人不要太多.

The flight is at about 9:30 PM and checking in at night has been rather pleasant. It’s a Saturday night but there’s relatively few people here. Check-in at the counter was quick (and the Jet Airways guy was very courteous), security check had no line and went by very fast, and there’s only a handful of people around me right now waiting to board. Another good thing about flying at night is that I should be able to fall asleep more easily on the plane.

飞机大概晚上九点半起飞. 晚上乘飞机是件让人愉快的事. 今天是周六的晚上, 但是这里的人并不多. 柜台登记的速度很快 (而且, 捷特的工作人员很有礼貌). 安检的时候不用排队, 因此速度也非常的快. 现在我周围只有几个人在等着登记. 晚上坐飞机的另外一个好处是, 飞机上我更容易入睡.

Thanks everyone for the farewell party last night, even if my leaving is just another excuse to get together. :)
