Day 236: Chenghuangmiao for gifts

(Post kindly translated into Chinese by Susie. Thank you!)

People shopping at Chenghuangmiao.

We’ll be doing Secret Santa at the Christmas party, so yesterday a couple of us went and got gifts for our persons at Chénghuángmiào. The place is better known to tourists as Yuyuan Garden, which is actually right next to Chenghuangmiao.

Since it’s a tourist spot, there’s lots of weird stuff you wouldn’t normally find in shopping malls. It also means inflated prices, so best to bring along a local who can haggle.

What is this? Cow face flavored soup? No thanks.

Baozi served as beverages?? Cute.

Because of all the Western influence in Shanghai, I’m guessing there’s more Christmas here than anywhere else in Mainland China. This bubble-peeing robot thing was in front of a mall by People’s Square.

Maybe a little too much Christmas in Shanghai.

I’m gonna visit Yiwu in Zhejiang Province tomorrow. Back on Wednesday.
