Anna the Cat, coming soon

Daniel Kwan shoots Anna the Cat

I shot Anna more than two weeks ago but haven’t gotten around to editing the photos. Been too busy not working and all. I swear I’ll get to them soon! Thanks Joe for the above photo.

Day 350: Pier 39 cafe has a new regular

Sandwich at Pier 39 Shanghai

Looks like I’ll stay in Shanghai after all. Today I start working for a magazine publisher. More importantly, the office is in ridiculously close proximity to one of my favorite restaurants in Shanghai, Pier 39!

Pier 39 info: CityWeekend, SmartShanghai

SmartShanghai says it’s a 10-minute walk from Line 1 South Shanxi Road. It’s actually 10 minutes from Line 2 West Nanjing Road also. From Line 2, just head south on Maoming Lu and turn on Jinxian Lu.

Somebody bring Gina to Shanghai

Gina Tran looked like this when she was a cute and innocent (not) jailbait:

Young Gina Tran

Now, about three years later, she’s all grown up and … a little scary. I still haven’t seen her go-go dance yet. It’s on my to-do-before-I-die list so I hope she doesn’t retire from it too soon.

Any clubs or promoters wanna fly her from Los Angeles to Shanghai for gigs here? I and all the laowais here with yellow fever would appreciate it.

U-Can Food Drive in Sacramento

Here’s a shout out to the U-Can Food Drive that’s being organized in Sacramento. Apparently there’s a place known as Tent City full of homeless people (I may move there soon) and my old buddy Amanda says it was featured on Oprah or something. Here it is.

Anyway, Amanda is helping with the canned food drive for them and she asked me to make an illustration logo for their promo materials. I was like, uhm, an illustration’s a lotta work. I’ve been messing with typography lately so I made it like this instead:

U-Can Food Drive

I like typography. It’s so much cheaper than photography.

Day 342: Oregon Trail

Week 4 of unemployment in Shanghai. Well folks, if I don’t get hired this week, I’m gonna start taking freelance gigs. If you read my previous post, you know I have an awesome bag now. Just think of all the things you could hire me and my bag for.

The Oregon Trail

Check this out: Oregon Trail for iPhone! This was the edutainment game we stupid kids looked forward to back in second grade, particularly the part where you guide your floating wagon down the river at the end. I remember having to insert a 5.25″ floppy into an Apple IIe to play this monochrome game. Good times.

Just purchased (US$5.99) and downloaded the game. Gonna try it out tonight. Let’s see how many of my family members die on our way to Oregon.
